Jan. 21, 2013 – For the last several months, I have been busily researching my family tree. It has been quite the hoot with more than a few remarkable and unsavory characters stepping out from behind the branches. I know that I am a Blue Splash Marans and that my breed originated in France. (Perhaps this is why I am able to speak French so well, Oui?!) To see what other fascinating clues might be uncovered; I bought a DNA kit from Shady Mae, a bantam from Mrs. Turner’s flock. She was so sweet, and charged me only five dollars! Today my test results came back and I am shocked! It turns out that I’m not a Marans after all. I’m not even a chicken! I seem to be half Peking Duck and half Canada Goose! Perhaps I should have questioned Shady Mae when she told me to disregard the broken seal.
