Feb. 17, 2013 – The wind was HOWLING today! Rather than huddle in my coop like some chickens I know, I built myself an anemometer out of two aluminum pie plates and a broomstick. Oh, it worked great! The plates were ZIPPING! High wind coming out of the north at 40 MPH! Angry snow danced viciously back and forth from drift to drift. I was in my glory! Then, a huge gust ripped the anemometer off its base sending it hurling through space. A pie plate landed in the hood opening of my snorkel jacket. I turned toward the coop for help and was immediately pecked and feather-beaten by Wilma and Sawyer. It took a good 10 minutes to get the plate off my face and convince them it was me and not a creature from outer space. I rested for the remains of the day wondering if Bill Nye the Science Guy ever suffered so much for his craft.
