May 11, 2013– I came back into the coop late morning to lay my egg and found Wilma standing over my nest box. She was clutching something, scowling and mumbling to herself. As I came up behind her I could see that she was holding my laptop. My heart dropped. Wilma was reading my journal and was obviously fuming over its content. Is nothing private? I tapped her on the shoulder, ready to give her a good old-fashioned tongue lashing for invading my private thoughts, when she spun on her heels, head butted me, and sent me flying into the run. Are you serious?! I leaned back on my wings and squinted into the sun-edged outline of her looming shadow. “HAPPY… I DO NOT APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE USED A SHOT OF MY REAR END AS YOUR SCREEN SAVER!!” Screen saver? So she hadn’t read the journal after all. I sheepishly returned to the coop and immediately exchanged Wilma’s picture with an image of a smiling earthworm. I also triple checked my firewall and changed my password to: DONTTICKOFFTHEOLDREDHEN.
