May 12, 2013– Today is Mother’s Day. My human family spent the afternoon at the nearby house of Mom’s sister. She lives on a lake, so I thought it would be very exciting if Sawyer, Peaches and I stowed away in Mom’s bag. But the other two backed out, too afraid to wander any distance from the chicken yard. As for me, I am an adventurer! So in between her trips to the car, I tossed into Mom’s big canvas tote, my towel, goggles, and flippers. Then, I hurled my one-piece purple and green bathing suited body into the back of the van just as Mom was slamming it shut. I tucked and rolled so she didn’t see a thing! Later in the day, when the family was enjoying a leisurely boat ride around the lake, Mom reached into her bag for her sunglasses. In that moment, I sprang from the bottom of the bag, stretched my wings high over my head and bellowed a celebratory, “HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY ONE AND ALL! “ I must have startled her, because she screamed a phrase the likes of which I have never before heard. Once she realized that it was only me, Mom slapped a life jacket over my head and we shared a hearty laugh. I think it was her best Mother’s Day ever! I can’t wait to tell the others about my day!
