June 18, 2013– Last night, I had a bit of fun with the ladies of Coop #1. After they had settled in for the evening, well into their knitting and gossip, I slipped around to the back of their coop and bellowed like a grizzly bear! Violet and Emaline screeched in fright while Charlotte threw her needles, yarn and all, into the air nearly missing Daisy’s head. Bo hit the lights straightaway in order to better focus on the source of the intrusion. I took advantage of the darkness. I put on Wilma’s rhinestone reading glasses, leaned into the back window and flipped on the flashlight I was holding under my chin. The stones of my borrowed spectacles dazzled in the brilliance of the beam. This time even Bo screamed! Peaches was the only who found enjoyment in my shenanigans. That’s because I told her what I was going to do beforehand. She’s one of my best friends and I don’t like how sometimes the others make her sleep on the coop floor when there is plenty of room on the roost. Today, Bo was boasting to everyone that he scared away a monstrous diamond-eyed behemoth in the middle of the night. As his tale unfolded, I could feel the heat of Wilma and Sawyer’s probing stares. I could also see Peaches’ beaming smile, and to me, that made it all worthwhile.
