June 26, 2013 – Today is a magnificent day! Mom introduced us to the new baby chicks. They’re only 3-days old, so Charlotte (our resident “mother hen”), reminded us that we had to be quiet as we peeked into the brooder. “No cackling, no squawking, and no crowing!” she instructed, before we formed a single line and one by one introduced ourselves to the newest members of our family. We didn’t even take it personally as the chicks nodded off and on during our visit. One of them was so tired, that she fell asleep in the middle of stretching her leg. She fell on top of another chick and neither of them woke up! What a hoot! I was very proud of the pullets who were on their best behavior. It’s so hard to believe that in two weeks they will be adults. Just in time; I say, since I’ll need their help showing these four darlings the ropes. Sigh… I love being a chicken.
