August 1, 2013 – I was relaxing in my lawn chair around noontime, eating a banana and dreaming up ideas for our chicken musical, when a blue jay came out of nowhere and flew right into my monkey fruit. Banana shrapnel flew in every which direction. Sawyer let out a screech when a piece hit her in the eye. Two seconds later and there I sat, holding only a simple peel in my wings and my banana just the sweet memory of a snack that never was. The blue jay didn’t get any of it either. Waffles and Betty picked him up at the base of the hemlock tree that he flew into. He was dazed, but alright otherwise. It seems he may have nibbled on a couple of poison berries and became delirious in flight. The girls have him all bandaged up now, treating him like he’s a chicken doll. Well, that pretty much ended my creative thinking for the day. I’m grabbing my camp shovel and going on a worm hunt.
