August 21, 2013 – There are three dogs that live at our house. Unlike the cat, we chickens get along great with the canine crew. Sadie is the littlest dog and what the humans call a “lemon beagle”. I don’t know why. I’ve never seen her eat a lemon or drink a glass of lemonade, (though I myself quite enjoy the spunky beverage). I’ve heard Mom call Sadie a rascal so many times, that she probably thinks it’s her real name. This afternoon, I was ranging alongside the coop when I heard a commotion coming from inside the house. I looked up and saw Sadie waving to me from the dining room window. She had glued a dozen or so fake feathers all over her body and was doing her rendition of a hen laying an egg while Mom was doing her best to catch her. Every time Mom had her in her grasp, Sadie would wriggle free, press her face to the window and shake her feathery hips at me. I couldn’t stop laughing. I love that dog! It’s quiet now, so I’m guessing that Mom is giving Sadie a bath and putting the dining room back in order. Sometimes, the best gift you can receive is a smile. Thanks, Sadie!
