September 21, 2013 – Two of our baby pullets called me over to their run today to share a joke they had been cooking up all morning. “Happy,” Dottie said excitedly, “What happened to the chicken when she slept under the family car?” I was going to venture a guess, but didn’t want to ruin their creative mojo. “I haven’t a clue!” I replied, feigning eager curiosity. “She woke up oily in the morning!” Maisy snorted, delivering the clever punch line. The two of them fell on their backs, hooting an infectious giggle that made my heart feel like sunshine. There were other things that I did today, but nothing as special as the two minutes I spent with the youngest members of our flock.
