October 14, 2013 – The weather today was so lovely, that a few of us decided to exercise among the colorful leaves that set sail from the maple trees and blanketed our side yard. Peaches led the group by having us hula dance to a traditional Hawaiian melody. What fun it was to sway our hips and extend our wings in what we believed to be graceful movement. A spectator might have disagreed, but we felt fit and fabulous. We even wore leis and headbands that Violet fashioned out of green and white Euonymus leaves. All sense of elegance disappeared when Peaches switched the class from grass skirts to weighted hula hoops. What a challenge we faced getting them to twirl around our waists. We had to spread out in order for us not to clonk one another in the head. Sawyer and I spun our hoops so rapidly that we reeled ourselves into a dizzying whirlwind and fell over. I suppose trying to right ourselves from the clutches of a bean-filled circle was a good workout because we were spent and completely winded from laughing by the time we got back up. Not to mention, laughing is great for stomach muscles and the perfect elixir for a peaceful attitude. I think Peaches might be on to something!
