October 26, 2013 – I dug out my cold weather gear today and put away the toys of summer. Sawyer and I took one last spin on the Vespa before taking it off the road for the winter. It’s true that Mom has restricted my driving to our own yard, but we were able to sneak a quick spin around town early this morning before anyone was up for the day. I wore a fleece cap under my colander helmet. Suddenly, the extra air holes that allowed refreshing breezes to pass over my head in July, invited in the biting nip of late October to freeze my delicate noggin. Sawyer wore a knitted brown cap topped with a pink pompom and a matching knit scarf. We drove by a pumpkin patch covered in frost, then up and over Blueberry Hill, past the Alpaca Farm. Then, we took a right onto Mountain Brook Road and opened her up to make the incline at Beaver Bridge. We stopped for a few minutes to take in the view before circling back around and stopping at Sunny’s Market for an apple turnover and a warm cup of tea. We took our time on the last stretch home, trying to make our final ride of the season linger a few minutes longer. The Vespa was cooled down, washed off, and under its winter wrap all before Mom “let us out” for the day. I had to stifle a laugh when she asked if I had anything exciting planned for my Saturday. “Just taking it easy,” I assured her. We’re actually working at the brewery today, but no need to bother her with those details.
