November 25, 2013 – I had a delightful visit with the pullets today. It’s too cold to take them on a field trip, so I made snowmen ornaments out of marshmallows with them instead. I was concentrating on piercing pretzel arms into my own sugary creation when Maisy let out a heaping sigh.
“What’s the matter, Maze?” I asked. “I’m a good listener if you want to talk about it.”
Maisy sighed again. “I have a horrible life.”
I was shocked! “You do?”
“Yes,” she said shaking her head. “Too much stress.”
“Stress?” I echoed. She’s so young. “Stress from what?” I probed.
“Too many friends,” she answered matter-of-factly. “They each want to be with me ALL THE TIME! They’re arguing over whose turn it is to be my bestie. It’s so stressful.”
All I could do was laugh and try to convince Maisy that friendship is a wonderful gift. She’s going to be a leader, that one. For the moment, she’s searching for some breathing room. I sent her into the garage to look for my glue gun. That’s going to take at least an hour!
