November 27, 2013 – I put on my slicker and rain boots this morning and took a stroll up to the house to peek in Mom’s window. The ground was very soggy. I was hoping to get lucky and spot a couple of worms floating on the grass, but I came up empty-handed. It wasn’t a big deal. I had already packed myself an apple for the walk since the man on the radio said to be patient if traveling and allow plenty of time. I gave myself an hour, but it only took two minutes. Mom was vacuuming when I got there. I rapped on the window anyway, and she turned and waved. Then, she signaled me to stay put for a minute while she left the room. When she returned, she opened the sash and handed me a bowl filled with cantaloupe chunks to take back to the chicken yard and share with the others. Oooh, what a delicious treat! I secretly hoped for the holiday traffic the reporter warned about so I could have the fruit all to myself, but I was back in the henhouse in less than a minute. There must have been a tail wind.
