December 10, 2013 – I think Wilma needs to get glasses. I walked up and found her deep in conversation with the lamppost next to our driveway.
“Peaches!” she argued, to the inanimate light source. “You can’t ignore this! The game is over. I spotted you fair and square! Now it’s my turn to hide!”
The lamppost remained silent.
“Did you see that?” I asked Sawyer as we ambled by the scene.
“Yes… It’s unbelievable, isn’t it? Wilma never wants to play Hide and Seek.”
I shook my head in confusion as Peaches walked up to us.
“What’s up, ladies?” she asked innocently.
“Hey, Peaches… do me a favor?” I said. “Go tap Wilma on the shoulder and tell her that she won the game.”
“Okey dokey pokey,” Peaches replied agreeably, and cheerfully approached the elder hen. Ten minutes later, I spotted Wilma hiding behind the trash barrels, laughing quietly to herself while Peaches counted to ten from a spot next to the mailbox.
Is it me, or has someone spiked the tap water today? Maybe Wilma has a cache of whacky tobacky hidden in the henhouse? Eh. As long as she’s having fun and remembers that she’s a chicken and not a light bulb.
As for me, I’m putting on a pot of chamomile tea and climbing into my comfy armchair to watch today’s episode of, “As the Hen Lays”.
