December 25, 2013 – Oh, what a marvelous day! It’s hard to know where to begin! We woke up to stockings stuffed with all sorts of goodies. Santa was so generous! Peanuts and mealworms and raspberry scones! Chamomile, apple and peppermint tea! Peaches got not one, but a crate full of pencils – already sharpened, and a leather notebook to boot! Sawyer received a set of cobalt blue canning jars, a mixer and a chef’s hat with her name on it! Wilma got a sleep mask and noise cancelling headphones. The pullets, the Orpingtons, the roosters… everyone received such lovely, thoughtful presents. I got an electric guitar! Can you imagine! I didn’t even tell anyone that I wanted one, but ever since I took up the piccolo, I’ve had thoughts of branching out musically. Santa is a mind reader! (Now I know why he gave Wilma the headphones!) In between all of this, Kellie Pickler and Dolly Parton laid their very first eggs! On Christmas! Brilliant!!
By the time the flock was done opening gifts, there was wrapping paper all over the coops. We shared a lovely dinner of spaghetti and raisins and sparkling water before Sawyer, Waffles and I each laid an egg. Then, I took a much needed nap.
Oh, I almost forgot! Mom LOVED her portrait of us! She even cried joyful tears. Then, she surprised us with the best present ever! She converted one of the bays in the garage into a “Chicken Clubhhouse!” It’s amazing!! There’s a raised platform for performances, comfortable chairs for entertaining, a snack bar, snazzy roosts and thinking logs, pictures on the wall of each of us and our friends, a karaoke machine and a wide-screen TV! She said she would rather have us close to home than gallivanting all over the countryside like we’ve been known to do. I may never leave! We’ve already scheduled the first party… New Year’s Eve! I’m going to dress in something shimmery and rock out with my guitar! I can’t wait to see what next year holds in store for us!
Whoa – I am suddenly too tired to write. There is only so much excitement this hen can take. Sweet dreams everyone. Thank you, Santa… I’m glad you liked the mealworm cookies.
