December 30, 2013 – Plans are coming along for our New Year’s Eve Chicken Clubhouse Extravaganza! Today, Addie, Charlotte and Sawyer are baking up a storm of delectable delights for us and for our guests from Mrs. Turner’s farm. Tim and Bo are stringing twinkly lights from the ceiling of our recently acquired garage hangout. The younger hens are putting together a music mix for the times when we ourselves, are not entertaining. Since Violet is off of restricted visits, Peaches is going to escort her from the recovery room in the cellar to a special spot we set up for her in the clubhouse. We’re hoping she’ll feel up to spending a couple of hours with us tomorrow night. It wouldn’t be right ringing in the New Year without all of us together. This afternoon, I am hitching a ride into town with Mom. She’s dropping me off at the party store while she picks up a few groceries. She told me that New Year’s Eve will be a quiet night of revelry for the family – maybe a movie and some shrimp. A flick and a handful of crustaceans? How is that celebratory? Are they dancing shrimp? Do they tell jokes? I tried to convince her to come downstairs to our soiree, but she just laughed and said it was fine. She was looking forward to a quiet night. She did mention something about checking in on us every now and again. I bet with a little convincing (and maybe a bottle of Winterberry Nest Lager from the Happy Chicken Brewing Company), I can get a breaded wormball into her by 11:00. That’s my goal!
