December 31, 2013 – The last day of the year is finally upon us. I’ve stolen a few quiet moments to write today’s journal entry before the shenanigans at our New Year’s Eve party kick into high gear. I have on my sparkly necklace that makes me look much more sophisticated than I am. All that’s left to do is to put on my party hat, grab my piccolo, and scoot over to the garage. I can hear the music. A steady, welcoming beat pulls me in. The gang from Mrs. Turner’s farm is here. They travelled together in the old, creaky wagon. It looks beautiful though, decked out with jingle bells and twinkle lights. Violet is feeling well enough to celebrate with us. Already the bubbly overflows and the sound of raucous laughter lifts and pours over the rafters. Soon, my own voice will join this symphony of celebration. It’s been a wonderful year, consisting of aspects that any period of time worth its salt should have; challenges and triumphs, doubts and absolutes, comings, goings, and always, love. I have been present through all of it. Oh, what a ride!
I will keep up this daily journal of mine, so that when I am a very old hen, I may relive these moments I have shared with my family and friends and I will say to myself, “Happy, you rascal, you have been blessed”.
I’m talking years down the road of course! I still have many journal pages to fill before then, so I’d best be getting my groove on and join the party. After all, they don’t call it “HAPPY” New Year for nothing! Goodbye, 2013! Hello, 2014…! Can I interest you in a colander helmet?
