January 2, 2014 – The storm is here! The wind is whipping outside our coop spraying snow against the window panes. Mom left the outside light on so I could watch Mother Nature paint a brand new landscape over our yard. It’s so difficult to spot anything familiar as she swirls her weather wand overhead blanketing the coop roofs and walkways with beautiful crystal flakes of ice. I can barely see the top of the big, gray garden wagon that Mom uses when she cleans out our henhouse. An hour ago, the snow angels that Waffles and Betty made were in clear sight, but now they’re just a shadowy dip on the side of a snow drift. I was outside earlier in the day but it’s far too cold to step outside now, even in my expedition gear. Some of the girls have taken to weaving friendship bracelets to pass the time. Wilma is napping under her sleep mask. She looks like a big bug. As for me, I’m content watching the show going on outside our house, grateful for the warmth of our coop, and dreaming of the moment when I can snap off an icicle from the roof shingles and crunch on it during a sunny walk along the snow path. I have just the mittens for the job! They’re made of Tibetan Yak’s wool. It’s true! Sawyer bought me a pair for Christmas. They are mighty warm and can grip icicles without soaking through. I’m wearing them now! They also make excellent wing pillows. I’m trying to stay awake to watch the snow fall, but my mittens are so soft, that I might doze off in my own arms. I wonder how far Tibet is from our chicken yard and if it’s snowing there right now.
