January 10, 2014 – The girls and I saw a story on the news a few nights ago about a father and daughter who stuck their faces in the snow and then took a picture of the impression with their cellphones. They were amazing, 3D portraits unlike anything we had ever seen before. Naturally, I was going to try this experiment for myself! I am a winter scientist after all. To our good fortune, we had snow showers today. As soon as they ended, I ran outside and planted my face in a snowbank. I took a picture with my iPhone, just like I saw them do on the news, but it didn’t turn out very well; too bright and little definition. I was scratching my head over it when Sawyer came up behind me chuckling at the Santa eyebrows I was sporting. She reminded me that the picture would only work if it was taken at night. Exactly! How could I have missed that?! No worries! I convinced Peaches and Waffles to give it a try with me after dinner. The rest of them are a bunch of fuddy duds. They’ll be singing a different tune when I publish a coffee table book featuring one hundred snowy face-plant chicken photos. That’s right. They’ll be in every living room in North America and perhaps even the world! I simply need to keep the pullets from messing up my artist’s palette in the meantime. They’re making snow angels as we speak.
