January 16, 2014 – Mom cleaned our coops today – on a Thursday! She said that she wanted to take advantage of the milder weather we’ve been having. So much snow has melted that we were able to range in the side yard. I spent an HOUR munching on grass! I don’t mean the kind they sell in Colorado. I mean cool, clean, January side-yard grass. It’s the type that’s green but still has white ice crystals in it. What a treat! The skies were gray and overcast, but I didn’t mind. I was stretching my legs all over the place!
Mom told us tomorrow should be sunnier and that she’ll spend more time outside with us so we can wander beyond our run. I reminded her that we have security measures in place against predators… we even hold monthly drills so everyone knows what to do if a hawk or fox or a beaver for that matter, comes too close to our coops. But she said that she feels better watching over us when we range, especially in the winter.
I was just thinking that if I were an only chicken, I would wander around the yard all by myself. That would make me the Lone Ranger. BAH HA HA HA HA HA!!! Oh, my! I just love it when I crack myself up. Honestly. I didn’t see that joke coming.
