January 29, 2014 – I sat in a stream of sunlight that poured through our coop window all day. I only went outside when Mom brought us treats – butternut squash, mustard greens and kale. She must have known that we were still traumatized by yesterday’s hawk incident. We’re having a meeting tonight to talk about it. This isn’t something that would fall under the Chickens’ Citizen Patrol. We have all of our protection details in place. Tonight’s meeting is to work out our feelings. I think by then we’ll be back to our typical selves. In fact, I can feel the mood loosening up already. Wilma pecked Hattie in head when she blocked the door to the run, Waffles slipped a pile of snow down Betty’s back, and Mom dropped off a bag of fan mail! There’s nothing better than reading lovely notes from cheerful friends. I’m feeling so much better, that I may wave to the kitten tonight when she looks for us out the window. You have to be happy in order to wave to a cat… even a cute one.
