February 20, 2014 – Today was exceptionally, fantastically, and super duperly, amazing. The sun beamed radiantly upon my wattled neck and comb. Fading icicles “drip, drip, dripped” for hours from our shingled roof, turning the doorway of the henhouse, into an on the spot, zero-effort, water fountain. Visions of basil and arugula leaves stretching up from freshly tilled soil while butterflies and bees fluttered and zipped from flower to flower repeated in my mind like scenes from a movie. Yes, indeed. Spring is on the way. Maybe not tomorrow or the day after that, but she’s coming. You can’t fool a chicken when it comes to something as serious as worm season. I can feel it in my bones.
If the weather wasn’t stupendous enough, Mom surprised me with the most exciting news… My journal has been published as a book! The girls and I were beside ourselves when we saw our names in print. Naturally, every group has their Debbie Downer, and Wilma is ours. She is worried that the paperback will bring undue attention to our “questionable” business operations. But I figure, you can’t get a diamond without tumbling a few dirty stones in the process. (Okay, now I have a circle of chickens tilting their heads at me. It’s a figure of speech, people!)
Tonight I will take a deep breath and exhale, thankful that I was the recipient of a most magnificent day.
