March 7, 2014 – Today was coop cleaning day! It may well be my favorite day of the week. We all crowded into the henhouse to chat with Mom and watch her shovel shavings, even though there is ample space for us to congregate in our run. It was a sensational, sunny day to boot – but spending time with Mom is better than spaghetti. We usually bombard her with chicken news and ask her for songs and stories and she always, without fail, complies. Today, she wanted to do a thorough cleaning without one of us standing on the end of her shovel or pecking at her pockets for treats. So she came prepared. She set out bowls of fresh strawberries and blueberries on the steps of the run. It was a tough call whether to stay or go, but the fruit won out after Mom promised to stick around and chat with us after the housekeeping chores were done. So today, I slurped down sweet blueberries and got to hear Mom tell us about the time she tripped and poked herself in the eye with a backscratcher. Good times we’re having in March, good times.
