April 1, 2014 – I was reading the local newspaper when Sawyer and Peaches asked if I’d like to take a walk with them around the neighborhood. It’s not even recycling day! Naturally, I jumped at the chance to take in the sunshine and stretch my legs outside of the chicken yard.
I stood to fold the paper and toss it on top of my thinking log, when I caught Peaches reading the headline.
“Well, isn’t that interesting!” She remarked lightheartedly. “Good for her!”
“Good for whom?” Sawyer asked peeking over her shoulder.
“Good for April.” Peaches replied. “She won.”
“Won what?” Sawyer questioned.
“I don’t know,” Peaches paused to think. “I don’t even know April… but I’m happy for her all the same.”
“Then I’ll be happy for her, too!” Sawyer exclaimed slipping her wing into Peaches’ as the duo turned to start our adventure.
“I’ll just be Happy,” I said to no one, peeling off the fake mustache and oversized glasses that neither of my friends noticed. I thought for sure that when they saw today’s date, they’d realize it was April Fool’s Day! Instead, my friends read it as, April won. You surely did, April…. You surely did.
