April 9, 2014 – Today was uneventful in comparison to yesterday’s adventure. I laid my egg in the morning and then marched around the side yard playing my piccolo to encourage the flowers and trees to bloom. I snagged a chunk of cantaloupe that Wilma dropped before it even hit the ground, and then I spent a few hours working in the brewery. We have nearly enough cases of Rolling Egg Ale to meet our initial purchase requests. The bowling alley doubled their order from last year! This means that Sawyer and I will be hitting the road soon, and we won’t have to take the little red wagon with us! The flock was so thrilled last night when we showed them our license, that they threw us an impromptu celebration. We gorged on cheesecake with strawberries and sipped sparkling blueberry wine. Bo and the pullets hoisted Sawyer and me up on their shoulders while the rest of the flock sang and danced a jumpy blues rendition of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. I can still picture Charlotte, Addie and Violet pointing their feathers in the air like they were the Andrew Sisters. Good times.
I still haven’t been able to snag a few minutes alone with Mom to bring her up to date on things, so tonight – I made a poster sure to catch her eye and hung it on the people door of our coop. It reads:
PLEASE SEE ME IN THE MORNING.
I’VE JOINED THE NAVY.
That should do it. Ooh – maybe she’ll take me out to breakfast!
