April 27, 2014– I gobbled up my first worm of spring this morning! I was scratching and pecking under the smelly bush when I inadvertently turned over a rock and there it was! The wiggly earth elastic was huge; so big, that it took all of my strength to yank it out of the ground. Sawyer had to grab a hold of my waist to stop me from tumbling over! It was delicious! There was another one right behind it and I grabbed that one too. But instead of eating it myself, I gave it to Sawyer. That’s what friends do. (Sad to say, had I come upon a blueberry bush in bloom it would have been every hen for herself.)
The overcast weather, while great for worm hunting, put the kibosh on the hula dancing contest I was hoping to hold today. I thought it would be great fun for us in the chicken yard but I’ve rescheduled it for next week. Still, I think I’ll jump into my grass skirt and strum a few island songs on the ukulele. I’m feeling the call of the coconut!
