May 1, 2014 – Here I stand on the threshold of the merry old month of May. Why, Vespa weather is nearly on top of us! Once the rain moved out this morning, I opened the shed doors and pulled my beautiful scooter into the sun. The girls helped me soap it down and rinse it off. Using my bowling towels, Maisy and Dottie buffed the bumpers to a glorious sheen. Sawyer and Peaches collected everyone’s colander helmets and ran a maintenance check on them before polishing each one until it sparkled. The only thing left to do is clean the goggles and we are ready to roll!
We have a busy week coming up. The baby bantams are arriving next Tuesday or Wednesday, we have a beer delivery to make at the bowling alley on Saturday, we need to buy our own car and something to make deliveries in other than our red wagon, and we have a sizeable order of moonshine to make. A mysterious buyer sent me a request by messenger pigeon for 8 jugs of white lightning. Messenger pigeon; can you believe it?! Our customer is old school, hah!
The note teased that more details will follow the closer we get to the delivery date and assured us that we would be paid handsomely for our efforts.
Sawyer and Tim are hesitant to make the deal. They suspect a set up – most likely the thug of a cat that kidnapped Tim last year and tied him to a tree. I assured them that we will proceed with caution and pull the transaction at the first whiff of feline. If this is a legitimate buyer, the order could finance a new delivery vehicle which we desperately need if we’re going to grow our business. Addie and Charlotte have already signed on to ride with us the night of the drop off. The two have been watching reruns of The Avengers, and feel quite confident that they can replicate the defensive skills and problem solving aptitude of British agents.
We are stoking up the still tonight, so after I give the pullets a quick ride around the yard on the Vespa – it’s off to take a nap. I don’t want to doze off later and land in the mash pot!
