May 8, 2014 – Today we were out ranging while Mom cleaned our coops. The best surprise was that she brought Violet with her! She was comfortable in a soft-sided kennel that had mesh windows and doors making it easy for her to see us. Violet loved being out in the warm weather and we loved seeing her! We had to take turns visiting because when the full lot of us gathered around, we all spoke at once! We each had important news to share with Violet and lost sight of our manners. Why, we sounded like a herd of buffalo yapping over one another! Not that I’ve actually ever seen buffalo up close, but we do get the Discovery Channel on TV, and when they run they are fairly noisy. Then again, they may only appear loud because Wilma usually has the sound turned up all the way. Gee, buffalo could be as quiet as church mice. Though, I knew a church mouse once who used to party in the downstairs pantry and listen to punk rock. Hmm. I guess then, you could say that we were as loud as chickens that hadn’t seen their very good friend outside in a very long time. Mom said as long as the weather stays warm and sunny, Violet will be outside for a few hours each day. The fresh air is good for her. I think seeing Violet is good for the flock, because we were exceptionally cheerful. You just don’t get that with an ordinary day.
