May 25, 2014 – I know warmer weather is on the way because Mom used the fire pit for the first time since the snow melted. She started tossing in sticks from around the yard. We helped. Peaches and I dragged a long branch up the hill that had fallen behind our run. We tried jumping on it to break it into smaller pieces. We don’t weigh very much so the only thing that broke was my toenail. I should get a pedicure before we leave on our trip but I’m not as fancy as Charlotte and Addie or even Sawyer. I’ll just ask Tim to trim it for me with his rotary grinder.
Once all the twigs were gone and the sky turned dark, Mom tossed a few logs into the fire pit and we sat around it in our Adirondack chairs drinking iced tea. Wilma, of all hens, started singing show tunes and it wasn’t long before we all chimed in. We had the most fun with Consider Yourself from the story about Oliver Twist. What a peppy tune that is!
I got back to our coop a few minutes ago. I must have had too much fresh air today, because I’m pooped! I smell like bacon bits, so I should have a dirt bath first, but I’m too tired. I think I’ll have a slice of strawberry cheesecake and hit the roost. Wilma is already sawing wood. There must be a huge fire pit going on in her dreams!
