May 26, 2014 – This morning the gang and I loaded up the pickup truck with the delivery that’s going to Verna’s, up at the Motorhome sales lot. She needs it by Tuesday, so we’re dropping it off tonight ahead of schedule. We have a couple of hours before we leave, so Sawyer and I decided to jump on the scooter and help place flags at the local cemetery to commemorate Memorial Day. The people in our town held a very moving tribute. When I got home, I did the same thing for my dear friend Clem, who lost his life two years ago saving ours from a hawk. I don’t know if I’ll ever be that kind of brave. I miss Clem but I talk to him every day. I told him about our upcoming vacation to Nova Scotia and wouldn’t it be funny if Wilma gets held up at customs for bringing in contraband material…. HERSELF!! Then, I told him about the ducks and the new baby chicks and how they’re bantams, like Tim. I told him about the new kitten and that I like her very much because she acts more like a chicken than a cat. I told him how Violet has been under the weather and asked if he had any influence in that department if he could please send healing vibes her way. Then I softly played a song on my piccolo before telling him that I would be back to visit again soon. I sure do miss my rooster friend.
Now I’m in the henhouse going over the group suitcase with Addie and Charlotte and Sawyer. We have a big checklist. Everyone has already added their essentials and their plus 1 item, including Emaline’s good luck charm, a little rock. It seems we will have plenty of room for souvenirs, but we’re tucking in an empty duffle bag just in case. We may get lucky and hit a sale on lobster! The passports are in the front pouch – the camera is charged and ready to go. A few more errands to run like the delivery tonight, and we’re on vacation!! WHOOO HOOO!!!
I’m going to miss Mom and Violet and Holly the kitten.
What’s wrong with me today?
You can’t be sad about vacation. It’s a chance of a lifetime!
But not all the people I love will be with me.
Snap out of it!
I had more to say to myself, but Wilma caught me talking in the mirror and pecked me in the head. So I’m off to have that much needed dirt bath and visualize the course I’m going to drive tonight in the dark. (You can never be too prepared.)
