June 9, 2014 – Mom has only a few minor details to finish on the duck house before the big move-in day tomorrow. We thought it would be a brilliant idea to throw the quacks a housewarming party when they finally cross that threshold to homeownership. So today, we’re busy cooking and whipping up decorations and making presents. I suggested to Mom that she put in an Olympic size swimming pool and patio area complete with chaise lounges and palm trees; something that we can all enjoy. She settled on a spot under our existing pine and birch grove with a couple of plastic Adirondack chairs and a blue kiddie pool. It’ll do.
Violet is painting the ducks a welcome sign to hang over their door. I am getting them each a colander helmet (in case we have an air raid of some sort) and I’m building a peg hat rack from which to hang them. Wilma hasn’t decided what she’s bringing because she hasn’t decided if she likes ducks. Sawyer is whipping up a wonderful Angel Food cake with strawberries and the Orpington ladies are bringing a refreshing melon bowl. Peaches is out in the woods looking for what she needs. I asked her, as she passed me by in a tizzy, what it was she was in search of but she didn’t answer. I hope to goodness she isn’t giving them a pet stick. Maybe she’s seeking out the intruder from yesterday and she’s going to give the ducks a dreadful feline! It would be just like her to want to give that cat a home even when it already has one. (It’s called catnapping, Peaches!) Oh, Good Lord! I’d better go find her.
