July 1, 2014 – I could not sleep last night as visions of yard sale tables and chicken calendars raced through my mind. Adrenaline is coursing through every feather. I can’t wait to get started on our new projects but I need to get organized first and soon!
Slumber may be a thing of the past as sales are slamming at the Happy Chicken Brewing Company. Orders for our Summer Songs artisan line are starting to pile up. The “Let’s Get Fizzy Cold, Fizzy Cold” pale ale is almost impossible to keep in stock, followed closely by our other two warm-month micro labels, “I Can See Clearly Now, Lorraine is Gone” bitter brew and “If I Were a Skeleton, but Then Again, Gnome” pilsner. In addition, the pilsner we created for the bowling alley, “Stinky Shoe” is flying off the shelves at the Lucky Lanes Lounge. Each chicken of legal age has put in extra hours over the last several days in order for us to make our deadlines.
“We need to make hay while the sun shines,” Bo is fond of saying. He’s right. Proceeds from these potent potable sales will add a nice cushion to our retirement fund. Retail success is not a bad problem to have, but today, I’m feeling a bit like a lemon that’s being squeezed from all sides. I need to prioritize my time so I can accomplish everything on my to-do list!
Tomorrow, before Sawyer and I leave to make a beer delivery at Fat Eddie’s Fried Clams and Delilah’s House of Noodles, I’ll make a few phone calls to see if I can find a photographer of upstanding character. When I get back, I’ll clean out my science closet and toss what I don’t need into the yard sale pile we’ve started next to Coop #1. I suppose I could do all of this tonight, but it’s a hot and steamy day. We’ve decided to have a cold spaghetti salad for dinner under the sparkly lights in our run and then relax with an icy piña colada on the back steps of the coop. Maybe I’ll sleep well tonight after all.
